Italian group of ALAI

ALAI Italia is the Italian Group of the Association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale.

The Italian Group of ALAI has been active since the ‘20s of the past century. Incorporated as ALAI Italia on March 5, 2015, it is based in Rome, c/o SIAE (Società Italiana degli Autori ed Editori), that has been supporting the Italian Group of ALAI since its creation.

ALAI Italia is a nonpartisan, apolitical, non-profit organization, regulated under Title Cap. III, Art. 36 and following of the Italian Civil Code. Its Articles of Association list among its purposes, analogous to those of the international association, the following:

• The defense, development and dissemination of legal principles that ensure national, EU and international protection of copyright and related rights;

• The study and comparison of national legislation on copyright and related rights, as well as of all connected matters, of the projects that aim to develop, improve and unify those legislations in Italy, in the EU and within the specialized international agencies, such as WIPO, UNESCO, etc.;

• The progress and enlargement of the scope of application of international conventions regarding the protection of copyright and related rights, in particular the Berne Convention, the Universal Convention, as well as the WCT and the WPPT;

• The participation in the studies and the work of all national, EU and international organizations that have similar purposes, as well as the collaboration with the other national groups of ALAI.

In the beginning, the Italian group was represented, within ALAI, by Eduardo Piola Caselli and, subsequently, by Valerio de Sanctis, Legal Advisor of SIAE and Mario Fabiani, Legal Advisor of SIAE as well, former director of the magazine “Il Diritto d’Autore” and Honorary President of the Italian group until 2015.

ALAI Italia regularly organizes meetings of experts on issues of greatest relevance involving the protection of copyright and related rights.
